Theme Park Project London Paramount Taking Shape
A two billion GBP (around 2.6 billion EUR) “London Paramount” entertainment resort is scheduled for an Easter 2020 opening in north Kent near London. The theme park project supported by Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures and promoted by London Resort Company Holdings Ltd. (LRCH) is planned to feature popular movies and TV series from Paramount Pictures as well as other Hollywood blockbuster and British film production companies. Over 50 rides and attractions – including entertainment shows, water rides, family rides and adrenaline rides – all themed around some of the most famous films, television programmes, games etc. will be part of the resort, which is expected to attract up to 15 million visitors a year.
Last December LRCH has signed a development agreement with the commercial arm of the BBC to feature their intellectual property at the resort. A separate agreement had already been signed with Paramount Pictures, allowing the resort to access over 3,000 films. In mid-January it was announced that Lafarge Tarmac has signed a binding option agreement with LRCH to sell 157 hectares of land in north Kent for the construction of the proposed London Paramount project. The land on which the proposed London Paramount theme park resort could be created was once home to the formerly largest cement plant in the UK, Swanscombe Works, which closed in 1993. Plans for the resort have already been presented during two stages of public consultation held by LRCH. Two further stages of consultation are still planned to be carried out. Following the schedule of the project, construction works could begin in winter 2016. (eap)
