Cirque du Soleil Presents “Amaluna” Show at PortAventura
On the occasion of PortAventura’s 20th anniversary, Canada’s Cirque du Soleil will perform its Amaluna show in the park this summer. It is Spain’s largest resort and theme park with 3.5 million visitors annually. Last year PortAventura, located in Salou, hosted the circus for the first time when it presented Kooza. Meanwhile Cirque du Soleil and PortAventura have concluded a five-year contract which includes the presentation of different productions (cf. EAP News, 08.12.2014). This summer, the park’s visitors will be entertained by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus’ show Amaluna. The name is composed of the words ama (mother) and luna (moon). As Cirque du Soleil’s 33rd production is dedicated to women, their achievements and their voices, nearly the whole cast is female. In total, a number of 114 persons, of which 46 are artists from 13 different countries, are involved in the performance. More than 300 handmade costumes belong to the most important visual effects of Amaluna. Since its foundation 30 years ago, Cirque du Soleil has realized 35 big shows which 150 million people in 300 cities all over the world have seen so far. (eap)
