USA: Kalahari Resorts & Conventions Opens Third Resort
Announced in 2014 (cf. EAP-News from October 4, 2014), Kalahari Resorts & Conventions recently opened its third African-themed resort in the United States. Following two indoor waterparks in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and Sandusky, Ohio the Nelson family, owners of all Kalahari facilities, settled the new resort in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. “We have always dreamed of expanding to the East Coast, and there’s no better way to do it than with our grandest resort to date in this historically prevalent tourist area”, Todd Nelson comments. Apart from Pennsylvania’s largest indoor waterpark the new resort includes 457 guest rooms, an outdoor waterpark, a 30,000 square feet (around 2,800 square meter) family entertainment center, three full-service signature dining experiences, the “Spa Kalahari & Salon”, a convention center and 6,000 square feet (557 square meters) of retail. The construction of the resort started in 2013 and has brought more than 1,000 jobs to the area. The project’s next step is to enlarge the resort, bringing it in total almost 1,000 guest rooms and an expanded outdoor waterpark. Furthermore, the indoor waterpark area will be enlarged from 100,000 to 200,000 square feet (9,290/18,580 square meters). The expansion is expected to be completed in spring 2017. (eap)
