USA: Silver Dollar City to Launch Record-Breaking Spinning Coaster in 2018
Branson/Missouri-based Silver Dollar City amusement park recently announced its plans to open a new rollercoaster – a world’s first – in spring 2018, following the launch of the “Outlaw Run” record-breaking wooden coaster (from Rocky Mountain Construction) back in 2013 (cf. EAP, 3/2013). In cooperation with German manufacturer Mack Rides, the park is building a so-called Xtreme Spinning Coaster, combining the rotating carriages of a classic spinning coaster with elements from a launch coaster. This new ride concept has been presented by Mack in autumn 2016 (cf. EAP, 2/17), the coaster in Silver Dollar City will be the world’s first installation of the Xtreme Spinning Coaster.
Named “Time Traveler”, the approx. 22 million Euro (26 million US Dollar) ride will combine exciting track elements to create an all-new ride experience for visitors: Besides three inversions (a dive loop, a vertical loop of nearly 29 meters/95 feet height and a Zero-G roll), adrenaline-seekers can already look forward to a 33 meter (ten story) high 90 degrees’ drop directly at the beginning of the ride. Also, two launch sections accelerate the train from zero to 76 km/h (47 mph) in three seconds and from 48 km/h (30 mph) to 72 km/h (45 mph) in 3.5 seconds. Thanks to these unique features, “Time Traveler” will be the world’s fastest, steepest and highest spinning coaster to date, according to the park. “This coaster’s state-of-the-art controlled spin feature provides riders a unique thrill experience while still appealing to families […],” said Brad Thomas, President of Silver Dollar City Attractions.
