Netherlands: Efteling Plans New “The World of Sindbad“ Theme Area

Only at the beginning of this month, Efteling announced extensive expansion plans for the park area (cf. EAP news f. 2 June 2021). Before the expansions are rolled out in the next few years, Efteling is first investing in the gradual transformation of the “Reizenrijk“ themed area. At first, the Dutch theme park announced the redesign of two existing attractions in the area around the “Vogel Rok“ dark roller coaster to create a new themed area called “The World of Sindbad“. The current maze will become the adventure island “Archipel“ featuring numerous play elements. In addition, the “Monsieur Cannibale“ tea cup carousel will get a new look, too – instead of cooking pots, small trading ships will rotate here in the future.

“[...] We are initially concentrating on the area adjacent to the new area to be created. Over the next few years, this area will be redesigned in phases in terms of theming, walkways, infrastructure, etc. In the first phase, we will design the attractions Avonturen Doolhof and Monsieur Cannibale in the Sinbad theme. At a later stage, the Panorama restaurant will also be given an oriental ambience to match. In a few years, visitors will pass through this redesigned area to the attractions in the eastern extension area,“ explains CEO Fons Jurgens.

Chief designer Sander de Bruijn adds: “[...] The sea voyages of Sinbad are the perfect hook to create a logical connection in this park area and to expand the theming of Vogel Rok. In this way, we complete our world of Sinbad and create an adventurous experience for our guests.“ (eap)
