USA: Cedar Fair Unveils Investment Plans for 2022 Season

Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, based in Sandusky, Ohio, has unveiled its investment plans for the upcoming 2022 season, which will see a total of up to 200 million USD (just under 170 million EUR) injected into all 13 of its associated leisure facilities in the US and Canada. One focus of the investment program is on the expansion and redesign of the park and resort gastronomy. For the Kings Dominion theme park in Virginia, the group plans to rename the existing “Safari Village” theme area, which is to offer new experiences under the name “Jungle X-Pedition” as of 2022. Among other things, a new roller coaster (a 4D spin coaster by S&S) will move into the area, along with a restaurant and a shop. 

Cedar Point in Sandusky, where the slow boat ride “Snake River Expedition” was launched as a novelty this year (c.f. EAP news of 8 June 2021), will offer a new restaurant in its “Frontier Town” next year in addition to its comprehensive entertainment and festival line-up. Likewise, the associated Castaway indoor waterpark hotel and the Sawmill Creek by Cedar Point Resorts will offer upgraded rooms and amenities for overnight guests, in addition to enhancements to the convention & meeting space at Sawmill Creek.

Kings Island, the Ohio-based theme park that announced a new luxury outdoor resort in late 2020 and launched it this year (c.f. EAP News 14 Dec 2020), will celebrate its 50th anniversary next season with a series of special events, F&B offerings and live entertainment. A new F&B offering is also planned for Canada’s Wonderland in the form of a rustic, multi-level lodge restaurant, which will become the largest food and beverage outlet to date at the park, which is located near Toronto.

Californian theme park Knott’s Berry Farm will host a series of comprehensive events, including the new International Food Festival featuring delicacies and drinks from global cuisine. The associated 300+ room Knott's Berry Farm Hotel will undergo a major renovation. Cedar Fair is also investing in its two associated Schlitterbahn water parks in New Braunfels and Galveston (both in Texas), with particular plans to expand F&B offerings in addition to improving the respective park infrastructure.
