USA: SeaWorld San Diego to Open New Coaster in 2018

Today, SeaWorld San Diego announced to open a new thrilling rollercoaster in 2018 – a “Sky Rocket II” model from US manufacturer Premier Rides with the name “Electric Eel”. At a height of 45.7 meters and its maximal speed of nearly 100 km/h, it will be the highest and fastest coaster of the park.

The 263 meter long ride track features turns, twists and one inversion, so riders can experience the movements of electric eels in an authentic way. Furthermore, multiple launch sections in both directions – forwards and backwards – produce some extra adrenaline for guests. The new coaster is being built on an area of 8,000 square meters next to the new “Ocean Explorer” park area, which is scheduled to open this season and will host one of the world’s most extensive collections of moray eels.

“Electric Eel will bring a whole new level of excitement to SeaWorld in 2018,” said SeaWorld San Diego’s Park President Marilyn Hannes. “This new, first-of-its-kind coaster at SeaWorld will give riders the rare opportunity to feel what it’s like to move like an eel as they twist and flip along nearly 900 feet of undulating track. […] We always strive to provide new reasons to visit SeaWorld and give our guests experiences that matter with a blend of exciting rides and incredible animal and educational experiences. We want our guests from around the world to not only have a great time, but be inspired to care about the ocean and the animals that live there,” said Hannes. “Electric Eel” will be SeaWorld San Diego’s third rollercoaster, following “Manta” (2012) and “Journey to Atlantis” (2004).
