Cologne’s Lentpark: Experience Music Under Water

(eap) With the “Wellenbad N°4” project, which will make a stop at Cologne’s Lentpark indoor pool on April 27, 2025, the swimming pool will become a sound installation – a concept that combines both sporting and cultural use in a public space. Three live performances by the Trio Wellenbad together with sound artist Tomoko Sauvage will take place in the training pool of the indoor swimming pool operated by KölnBäder, inviting the audience to experience electronic music above and under water. The sounds are transmitted via special underwater loudspeakers and transform the pool into a multi-sensory soundscape.

The format is not only an artistic installation, but also an impulse for the spa industry to try out new uses and to rethink pools as places of social and cultural participation. An opportunity for many facilities to tap into additional target groups and position themselves as a multifunctional space in the urban environment.

“We are delighted to show the swimming pool in a completely different light with this special cooperation. Culture and exercise are not mutually exclusive – in fact, they can complement each other wonderfully,” explains Judith Jussenhofen, press spokesperson at KölnBäder. “Our Lentpark is exactly the right place for this.”

The project, which has been touring since 2023, has already made guest appearances in Berlin, Bonn and Düsseldorf. The event in Lentpark is embedded in regular pool operations and registration is not required. ■
