Spain: Parques Reunidos & Lionsgate Announce First “Lionsgate Entertainment City“ for Europe
In the context of its strategic partnership (cf. EAP news from Nov 24th, 2016), Parques Reunidos and Lionsgate announced the opening of the first “Lionsgate Entertainment City” at New York’s Time Square last autumn, with its opening scheduled for 2019 (cf. EAP news from Sept 22nd, 2017). Recently, the two companies presented their plans to build another indoor entertainment center of this brand in Madrid as the first location within Europe.
In a wing of the historic Estación Príncipe Pío train station, which hosts a theater and a concert hall, the new 4,200 square meter indoor center is set to open in 2020. Its offer for visitors will be similar to the attractions’ line-up for Lionsgate Entertainment City in New York, including a motion simulator, 4D theater, VR experiences and a climbing wall based on several Lionsgate IP brands.
“Parques Reunidos has a strong expansion plan for indoor entertainment centers (IECs), which will be open to the public year-round throughout Europe and the U.S. Parques Reunidos’ experience combined with Lionsgate’s iconic properties – like ‘The Hunger Games’, ‘Divergent’ and ‘Mad Men’ – will allow us to create the first branded IEC of this kind in Europe. Visitors will be able to live through total immersion experiences via multiple virtual reality simulators […],” said Fernando Eiroa, CEO of Parques Reunidos. “We are thrilled to continue our global partnership with Parques Reunidos with the opening of our second Lionsgate Entertainment City location and our first branded leisure center in Europe. We look forward to introducing exciting and immersive experiences themed to our popular film and television brands to audiences in Parques Reunidos’ hometown of Madrid,” added Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate Senior Vice President of Global Live and Location-Based Entertainment.
