† Bruno Rixen, the "Inventor" of the Water Ski Cableway, Dies at the Age of 89
The engineer and entrepreneur Bruno Rixen, who revolutionized the sport of water skiing in the 1960s with his innovative development of a water ski cableway, passed away on November 30th at the age of 89. His work was characterized by enthusiasm, engineering skills and a pioneering spirit – he developed his company, the Rixen Cableway GmbH, into the global market leader for water ski cableways. Bruno Rixen’s vision was to make water skiing and wakeboarding accessible sports for everyone. Until to date, his company has installed over 300 full-size cable systems worldwide for unlimited water fun. The international leisure industry mourns the loss of a courageous “tinkerer” and entrepreneur who, with his cableways, created a type of attraction that gave birth to new sports which bring lots of fun to more and more people around the world.
