AI Makes the Nettebad Osnabrück Smarter
From now on, the pool staff at Osnabrück’s Nettebad will be assisted by an artificial intelligence (AI) in water supervision. The new technology will initially be used in the 33-meter hall of the Nettebad, which belongs to the Osnabrücker Bäderbetriebe. The aim is to support the supervisory staff in emergencies when it comes to saving lives.
The AI acts like a third eye for the employees. Six cameras now illuminate every corner of the pool and record all the movements of the bathers in the pool. If the AI detects a drowning person in the water from the collected data, it sends an alarm signal with precise location information to the smartwatch of the pool staff. “The AI continuously learns what is a critical situation and what is not based on the recorded movement patterns,” the pool management says. The DSGVO-compliant technology was developed by the Israeli company Lynxight, and is already being used in some German baths. “The experience in the industry is that the AI can definitely recognize critical situations before the human eye,” says Nettebad manager Sonja Niemann. This can be very helpful, especially on days with high visitor numbers. ■
