Australia: Construction Work on URBNSURF Sydney Underway
Based on the model installation of the artificial surf facility URBNSURF Melbourne, in the Australian metropolis of Sydney, too, an all-new surf lagoon of this type named URBNSURF Sydney will be developed on a ground surface of 3.6 hectares within the Olympic Park. At intervals of only eight seconds, waves will be generated here in the diamond-shaped surf pool by the “Wavegarden Cove®“ technology of the Basque manufacturer of the same name, Wavegarden. Recently, construction work started on-site to realise the schedule for the opening of the surf location in spring 2023.
Damon Tudor, CEO of URBNSURF, is excited for the expansion: “I’m thrilled to be kicking off the construction process and fulfilling our commitment in providing amazing surfing environments that are inclusive of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Being a Sydneysider myself, I know how blessed we are with the beautiful beaches just minutes from the city, but I also know how competitive it can be to catch a perfect wave when everyone is making the most of some of the great breaks on our doorstep. URBNSURF Sydney will provide an alternative break that will pump perfect waves regardless of the conditions, guaranteeing 10-12 perfect waves per surfer in just one hour in a crystal-clear surf lagoon. “We congratulate URBNSURF on achieving this significant milestone. And, in the not-too-distant future, we look forward to seeing surfers having the time of their lives at URBNSURF Sydney,” says Josema Odriozola, founder and CEO of Wavegarden. Besides a surfing academy for surfers of all levels, URBNSURF Sydney will offer a licensed café, a rooftop bar, a yoga studio, a leisure pool for families, a skate park, a surf academy staffed with expert coaches, beach cabanas, a surf shop as well as a kids’ playground. Within a 30-minute drive, around two million people can reach URBNSURF Sydney. (eap)
