China: Shanghai Disney Resort to Open in June 2016

In 2011, the construction works for mainland China’s first and at the same time the sixth Disney Resort worldwide have started in Pudong District, Shanghai (cf. EAP News from May 2, 2011). Now The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group, joint venture partners of the project, have published the opening date for Shanghai Disney Resort. Following a multi-day grand opening celebration, the resort will welcome its first official guests on June 16, 2016. „Shanghai is one of the most exciting and dynamic cities in the world and we’re delighted to be able to open a world-class tourism and entertainment destination befitting this incredible city and its people,” says Bill Ernest, President and Managing Director of Asia for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

In addition to the theme park “Shanghai Disneyland” featuring six themed lands, visitors can look forward to the shopping, dining and entertainment district “Disneytown” as well as “Wishing Star Park”.
