Denmark: New Interactive Karting Fun at Sommerland Sjælland
This season, Denmark’s Sommerland Sjælland has added an extra portion of fun to its kart racing track: Similar to the popular Mario Kart video game series developed by Japanese Nintendo company, on the outdoor “SamyKart” karting track participants can make use of “special effects” to influence the driving behavior of their opponents. By pushing a chromed trigger on the steering wheel, drivers can spray water onto the other cars or just push the “shortcut” button to boost up the speed for only a few seconds time and in this way cross the finish line first. Thanks to a loyalty program, visitors can collect points, e.g. by purchase or attendance, to profit from further possibilities on the track.
This new interactive driving experience has been developed in a cooperation between Sommerland Sjælland and the Danish AmuseTech company, also owned by Sommerland Sjælland’s owner, Kåre Dyvekær. The interactive system has been implemented directly into the go-karts from French supplier Sodikart. The idea of the track layout and a part of the installation design come from Dutch Leisure Expert Group. (eap)
