Dinoworld at Cologne Zoo: VR Experience & XXL Sculptures
(eap) At Cologne Zoo, the dinosaurs are on the loose! Since this past weekend, the living zoo animals have been joined by true-to-scale dinosaur figures of Argentinosaurus, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rex, among others. The occasion is the 165th anniversary of Cologne Zoo (the exhibition will be on display for around two years). A total of 24 animatronic dinosaur figures are being presented at 14 different locations in the zoo. Most of the sculptures were specially made for Cologne Zoo by the US company Dino Don. Additional signs for the individual exhibits explain more about the biology and special features of each dinosaur. Furthermore, the zoo offers a virtual reality (VR) journey into the time of the prehistoric giants in cooperation with TimeRide. The VR experience follows the triumphant march of the animals on land, in the air and in the water – right up to the end of their existence around 66 million years ago.

“We are very proud to be able to present this major dinosaur show to mark our 165th anniversary. It combines everything that Cologne Zoo has always stood for: fun, recreation, amazement, discovery and new experiences,” say zoo board members Prof. Theo B. Pagel and Christopher Landsberg. “Spectacular dinosaur sculptures and the virtual reality experience of our partner TimeRide in the midst of our 12,000 animals, listed buildings and extensive parkland: In its 165th year, the zoo is once again a crowd-puller with new highlights.” ■
