Discover Now: Minion Land at Universal Studios Florida
(eap) As of today, “Minion Land” at Universal Studios Florida is complete and officially open to visitors including its new main attraction “Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast”, new shops and F&B options. The newly opened attraction is a walkthrough located directly at the entrance of Minion Land. In the attraction, in which guests are equipped with shooters and have to cause as much chaos as possible at the convention for villains and villainesses, is also linked to an associated gameplay in the Universal Orlando Resort app, in order to extend the experience into the digital world. Guests who also use the app can, for example, unlock special missions in the attraction for themselves in order to score additional points.
“We are thrilled to officially welcome our guests to the all-new Minion Land,” said Karen Irwin, President & COO of Universal Orlando Resort. “This immersive and captivating new addition to our destination was brought to life in a partnership with our colleagues at Illumination and puts our guests into the heart, and villainous minds, of this diabolically fun franchise. This rich new environment has so much for all our guests to enjoy.”
Chris Meledandri, Founder and CEO of the film production company Illumination, said, “[…] I am thrilled for guests of all ages to discover our new Minion Land including the innovative gamified experience at Villain-Con Minion Blast where they can battle our favorite villains featured in the Despicable Me franchise, from the iconic Vector to the most recent supervillain, supergroup, The Vicious 6.”
The new gastro offers include the “Illumination’s Minion Café”, the “Bake My Day” retail shop with a connected bakery and the “Pop-A-Nana” kiosk, where you can buy banana-flavored popcorn, among other things. Also new is the “Evil Stuff” shop, where guests will find a large selection of costumes and accessories for their personal villain outfit.
With Minion Land, Universal Orlando Resort has created a new family entertainment offering that fits seamlessly into the park landscape, which offers both large roller coasters for thrill fans and attractions for younger guests. That the Universal theme parks are generally on a “good track” is shown by the recently published quarterly results for the current financial year from parent company Comcast – we reported in our news here. ■
