Erlebnisbad Schaumberg Celebrates 30 Years
(eap) The Erlebnisbad Schaumberg public pool near Tholey in Germany is celebrating its 30-year-anniversary and still enjoys great popularity in the region. Visitor numbers grew by six percent in the first quarter of 2024 compared to 2023, and even increased by 42 percent compared to 2022, when Covid and the energy crisis still had major effects on pool operations. The popular indoor swimming pool at Schaumberg was opened on April 30, 1975. The swimmers’ pool, non-swimmers’ pool and outdoor pool have been preserved from this time. From the early 1990s, the pool was extended in several phases to include a fun area with a stream canal and a tube slide. This 103-metre-long tunnel slide was partially renovated by Klarer Freizeitanlagen at the end of 2022 and equipped with lighting effects, touch points and time recording for a more interactive slide experience. The “Sauna Vicus” sauna and wellness area has been open since the end of 2010. Due to a fire in August last year, the sauna area is currently closed. However, there is hope for a reopening in the second half of the year.
“We have done a lot for our public pool in recent years. It has been brought up to date in terms of energy efficiency at immense expense and made even more attractive with the new slide and other smaller measures. The fact that guests appreciate this is confirmation of our work. But it is also a great incentive. In addition to its importance for local recreation and maintaining the health of our local population, the Schaumberg pool has now also become a brand that radiates far beyond the region,” states Andreas Maldener, Mayor of the municipality of Tholey. ■
