France: Walibi Rhônes-Alpes Previews New Attractions & Announces Contract Signing with Intamin for Major Novelty to Open in 2024
Walibi Rhône-Alpes, located near Lyon and operated by Compagnie des Alpes, has announced that visitors can look forward to the completion of the first construction phase of its new “Exotic Island” theme world during next year’s season. In early summer (as of June), the area’s “Tiki Academy” family attraction and two themed water playgrounds for kids in the age groups 2-6 and 7-12 years will open to guests. A restaurant is also part of this 3.5-million-Euros project phase.
Further elements will be added to the new theme world in the next years, including a major attraction from Intamin: yesterday, Luc De Roo (Park Director Walibi Rhône-Alpes) and François Fassier (Leisure Park Destination VP, Compagnie des Alpes) signed the contract with the Liechtenstein-based manufacturer. The novelty is scheduled to go into operation in 2024 – the year of Walibi Rhône-Alpes’ 45th anniversary. In that season, the park aims at surpassing the 600,000 visitor mark, for which it is well on its way: After the pandemic-related slump in guest numbers, the French Walibi destination reports a highly successful Halloween season this year, with more than 120,000 guests. In total, around 430,000 visitors were welcomed in 2021. (eap)
