GB: BALPPA Appoints Nick Thompson as New Chairman
Nick Thompson, Deputy Managing Director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, was recently appointed as new Chairman of the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA). Thompson, who follows in the footsteps of his father Geoffrey Thompson and his grandfather Leonard Thompson, will hold his new position for the next two years.
“I’m extremely proud and honored to be able to represent the leisure industry on behalf of the UK. As the third generation of my family to hold this position I feel very humbled, especially as my grandfather was one of the founding members of the association,” said Thompson. “Over the next two years our members face a number of challenges, such as the “Brexit”, and in my new role I intend to make sure that as an association we continue our lobbying to get the best for our industry,” he added.
In his time as Deputy Managing Director, Thompson has spearheaded a number of the park’s profile projects. The latest, which he has been involved with, is “Construction 2018” – a new double launch coaster from Mack Rides (c.f. EAP news from October 11th, 2016). (eap)
