Germany: “Karlchen Around the World“ – Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Elstal Opens 3rd Ice World
Under the motto of “Karlchen Around the World”, tomorrow sees the opening of the third ice world exhibition at Karls Erlebnis-Dorf in Elstal near Berlin. The 2,000 square meter ice hall features more than a hundred colorful art objects made of ice, created by 23 international artists form eleven countries. For Karlchen’s (the park’s mascot) journey around the globe the artists formed a total of 270 tons of ice in a time period of three weeks.
In the occident, visitors await an encounter with sumo wrestlers and geishas, in Egypt’s capital city of Cairo iced camels are on their way through the desert and popular landmarks such as the “Leaning Tower of Pisa” or London’s Big Ben provide the ideal background for a selfie picture. In the iced version of Panama, including the canal, toucans and a jungle landscape, young visitors can speed down a piranha-shaped ice slide or directly head to the four-line ice slide in a potato sack-design.
At the end of the journey, visitors can warm up again in the ice bar, enjoying delicious treats such as mulled wine, kids punch or marshmallows. “This year, the ice bar is even large enough to host private events of up to 25 persons,” said Robert Dahl, Managing Director of Karls Erlebnis-Welt. A special cooler machine maintains the temperature in the ice hall at a constant minus seven degrees. At Karls Erlebnis-Welt Elstal, visitors can see the ice world through October 31st, 2018. Karls Erlebnis-Welt in Roevershagen also hosts an ice exhibition again, this time featuring the motto of the city of Rostock’s 800-year-history. (eap)
