Germany: Between Tulips and Yucca Palms – Berlin Gartencenter Holland Plans Large-Scale Leisure Area
Attached to the 5,000-square-metre Gartencenter Holland, which was opened by owner Theo Roelofs as the second of a total of three specialist garden and plant centres in Berlin in 1999, the “Holland Park“ is currently being created as an adventure park with an old Dutch design featuring both indoor and outdoor play and fun activities. “The Holland Park will be a place of recreation and adventure for young and and the young-at-heart, i.e. for the whole family,“ Roelofs explains.
The main attraction of Holland Park will be a historic windmill called “Wilhelmus“, which was restored in Holland and is now being rebuilt on the park site. The 150-year-old mill will not only be fully functional again, but will also house a mill museum where visitors can learn more about the tradition of flour production.
In the indoor climbing and play area “Klimhal“, 48 climbing walls – supplied by the Bulgarian manufacturer Walltopia – in addition to several ball pools, a giant slide, a softball shoot arena and a toddler zone, among other things, will offer children numerous play options. Additional experiences will be a “cheese“ laser game (Laserlight Showdesign), differently themed Escape Rooms, a building brick area and the “Jungle Hal“, a jungle hall where visitors can experience meerkats, lorises, turtles and koi alongside exotic plants. Kids will be able to get in touch with animals in the “Kinderboerderij“ petting zoo. In the outdoor area, the 21-metre-high “Panoramatoren“ will offer a slide experience with a tummy-tickling guarantee – Atlantics supplied six stainless steel slides for this attraction. In addition, there are nine different playgrounds with outdoor playground equipment from Ziegler as well as an electric kart track from Eurogames. In addition, there will be several different gastronomic offers. The Holland Park, the investment sum of which amounts to 28 million Euro, is scheduled to open this spring. (eap)
