Germany: Jena Sets Path for New Chapter of Swim Sport within the City
Past week, the Jena Association of Pools and Leisure (G.: Jenaer Bäder- und Freizeitgesellschaft) celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Schwimmhalle Jena-Lobeda indoor swimming facility. On a ground space of 3,360 square metres, a competition-suited and swim sport-dedicated indoor pool will be developed. The bathing complex, the construction of which is scheduled to take two years, will offer a 50-meter pool featuring eight swimming lanes. In addition to a permanently installed starting block system, there will be a variably movable bridge with starting blocks, which will make it possible to divide the total swimming area into two 25-meter pools. Also, a training pool with a lifting floor is planned.
“We are delighted that after almost two and a half years of planning for our new indoor swimming facility we can finally start the implementation of this project. This groundbreaking ceremony not only marks the start of the construction works, but also initiates a new chapter in the history of swimming in Jena. Today sees the start of one of the most important sport projects in the city of Jena, from which the swimming clubs, amateur and school sport in our whole city will profit in the future,“ explains Susan Zetzmann, General Manager of the Jena Association of Pools and Leisure.
