Germany: Klimahaus Bremerhaven Opens “World Future Lab“
Today, Germany’s Klimahaus Bremerhaven 8° Ost science center will open its new interactive “World Future Lab“ exhibition area, which is focused on the challenges in environment, economics and society in relation to the worldwide climatic change. The concept has been developed in cooperation with the Gruppe für Gestaltung (GfG) from the city of Bremen as a game comprising eight different stations at which players can prove their personal expertise.
Each challenge refers to a specific theme: An island in the South Sea has to be protected from the increasing sea level, smartphones and coffee should be produced sustainably and a city’s district has to be designed in order to meet future requirements. Following the completion of a game station, the consequences of the player’s decisions are projected on a huge globe with a diameter of 3.2 meters. Having completed the “World Future Lab” challenges, participants obtain their personal certificate with their individual results and are classified as a specific “future type”.
Dr. Fabiola Gerpott, lecturer of work and organization psychology at VU Amsterdam and the Jacobs University Bremen were responsible for the project’s scientific approach. (eap)
