Germany: LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort to Build New Pirate-Themed Hotel

Yesterday, LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort, which is located in the German city of Guenzburg, announced its plans to build a new pirate-themed hotel to open in 2018. “Pirate Island” will be part of LEGOLAND’s “Holiday Village” next to the park – a hotel with 142 rooms, an extensive playground and a restaurant, offering 320 places in its interior and some additional 120 places in the outdoor area. The rooms – in total 116 rooms sleeping four persons and 26 rooms for five persons each – will be decorated with lovely LEGO® models, while the whole complex will resemble a pirate island. Two three-storied buildings will be constructed in an L-shape around a large playground, inviting children to adventures on a pirate ship.

LEGOLAND’s operator Merlin Entertainments invests a total amount of 26.6 million Euros in the new hotel, for which the city of Guenzburg has already granted the construction permit this past December. “Although we have expanded our Holiday Village several times in the past years, its occupancy remains on an extreme high level. For this reason we decided to expand our offer for overnight guests again. The construction of the hotel is an important step in our resort’s strategy, which we are consequently pursuing since we have opened the first holiday homes in 2008. In the course of time, there was a continuous development, especially regarding the theming of the rooms,” explains LEGOLAND’s CEO Martin Kring.

To build “Pirate Island”, the park will work together with local companies and suppliers – its opening in 2018 will create around a hundred new jobs in gastronomy, housekeeping and reception. In the upcoming season – and in due time for LEGOLAND’s 15th anniversary – the park will open the new “LEGO® NINJAGO® World” theme area featuring the interactive “LEGO® NINJAGO® The Ride” 4-D attraction, equipped with Triotech’s hand gesture technology (c.f.
