Germany: Outdoor Pool in Uetze Reopened as Natural Adventure Pool

This summer, the outdoor swimming pool in Uetze, a town in Lower Saxony/Germany, was reopened as a new natural adventure pool after the facility had been equipped with a biological water filter for chemical-free bathing water during a refurbishment phase of eleven months. The water is now purified by a “bio matrix” filter system, which makes use of the natural filter function of aquatic plants such as reeds. With its new chemical-free water quality, the facility, which has been operated by a cooperative society since 2011, aims at distinguishing its offer from the outdoor pool in the neighboring village of Haenigsen in order to secure long-term income and its continued existence of the outdoor pool.

The transformation of the outdoor swimming pool in Uetze into a natural adventure pool amounted to an investment of some 1.5 million Euros, some 500,000 Euros of which were equity capital. For the project implementation the cooperative association worked together with the experts from EKO-Plant, a company of Germany’s Pauly Group specialized in the conceptual planning, construction and operation of natural adventure pools.
