The first themed tourist destination in Aqaba, Jordan announced two years ago (cp. EAP news from 21 June 2011) takes shape now. Design details for The Red Sea Astrarium (TRSA) have been revealed on the occasion of the ground-breaking ceremony in May. Details of the 100 hectare large themed entertainment resort revealed that the TRSA is expected to become a diverse leisure destination “affording a multi-cultural bridge that connects past, present and future, with the aim of bringing together people of all cultures, backgrounds and age groups.” A major goal will be to create new jobs and to foster tourism in Jordan. The use of clean energy sources was also highlighted. According to the plans, the 1.5 billion USD (1.1 billion EUR) TRSA will include an iconic “Astrarium” building, four world-class 5-star hotels, “Old” and “New” waterfronts with expansive retail and dining facilities, and a theatre. A total of 16 entertainment attractions and experiences including a 4D-cinema, an indoor themed waterpark as well as an “Adventure Center” for extreme adventures like sky diving etc. will be distributed within the Astrarium building and the two waterfronts, 15 of which are designed and built by Rubicon Group Holding (RGH).
