(eap) At the beginning of November last year, the new 65-metre-high Harzturm tower in Torfhaus in the Upper Harz Mountains (Germany) was officially opened by Stephan Weil, Minister President of Lower Saxony (we reported in EAP 1/2024). Due to weather conditions, however, it was not possible to fully open at the time.

Work on both the “Rasantia” adventure slide and the elevator as well as various ground work was delayed and could not be completed due to an unusually long period of bad weather. The construction companies have been able to resume their work since mid-March 2024, whereby the Harz Tower and all its attractions are now open to visitors since yesterday. More than 12,000 guests have taken advantage of the tower tours offered since the beginning of November 2023.

“We are delighted that the Harz Tower can now finally be put into full operation. I would particularly like to take this opportunity to thank the construction companies involved, who completed the work very quickly and professionally after the winter period despite the adverse weather conditions in Torfhaus,” emphasizes Hannes Mairinger, Managing Director of Harzturm GmbH.

The Harz Tower offers a view of the Brocken and the entire surrounding Harz Mountains from two 360-degree panoramic viewing platforms. At a height of 45 meters, brave visitors can walk on a glass skywalk and then descend either by elevator, stairs or slide. The stainless-steel slide from Wiegand offers users a length of 110 meters of rapid curves as well as sound and black light effects. ■
