Hong Kong: K11 Musea – New Museum and Retail Complex for Millennials

In the historic district of Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon/Hong Kong, K11 Musea is set to become a new, 2.2 billion Euro (2.6 billion US Dollar) museum and retail complex specifically designed for lifestyle-oriented millennials. The ten-storey building, which is currently under development, will cover a site of approx. 27 hectares (three million square feet) and will combine retail, art, culture and dining.

From the outside, the building’s façade will feature an over seven meter (25 feet) high LED screen to be used as a “living wall”. The approx. 185 square meter (2,000 square feet) large “Sunken Plaza” will feature water patterns and a misting system. Furthermore, an amphitheater will be constructed in the outdoor area to host cultural events.

The development of K11 Musea is headed by Chinese K11 Group, which is part of the New World Development Company. James Corner (James Corner Field Operations) and Forth Bagley (Kohn Pederson Fox) provide the architectural design. The new museum and retail complex is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2019. (eap)
