Malaysia: Movie Animation Park Studios Now Open
Malaysia’s new Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) have opened its doors this week within the scope of a soft-opening phase, which – according to media reports – will last until tomorrow (July 2nd). The new leisure destination is a joint venture between The Sanderson Group and Perak Corp. Berhad, with a total investment sum of approx. 92 million Euros (450 Malaysian Ringgit). On an area of some 21 hectares (52 acres) visitors can now discover six thematic zones featuring popular IP brands from around the world as well as some beloved national IP characters.
The park counts more than 40 attractions, including the entertainment shows. Its ride portfolio includes the “Casper’s Birthday Blast” dark ride (from Sally Corp., c.f. EAP news from June 17th, 2016), a 52 meter high free fall tower named “Megamind Megadrop Tower”, a “Red Baron” kids’ flight attraction from Italian manufacturer Zamperla and some family attractions featuring “The Smurfs”. In its first year of operation MAPS expect to welcome around one million visitors. (eap)
