New “Urban Blue” Leisure Destination Emerging in Bochum
(eap) Urban Blue, a new leisure and recreation destination at the Hallenbad Langendreer indoor swimming pool, is currently under construction in Bochum, Ruhr region (Germany). There will be offerings for the whole family: from sports and play facilities to gastronomy and relaxation areas. The element “water” will be at the centre of the entire facility. A water playground with interactive elements, a play and paddling pond with water cannons and a rock slide, a mud playground and an artificial stream with damming elements are designed to delight younger guests. The waterplay attractions are implemented by the Gevelsberg-based company Roigk. In addition, a sand play area, slides, diggers and a climbing frame will provide fun for the youngest visitors. Sport enthusiasts can look forward to a street basketball court, a beach soccer facility, a yoga meadow, a boules area, a sand running track and a circular path with inclines through the entire area, which is suitable for jogging or walking.
In addition to sports, games and action, Urban Blue will also include a relaxation area – separated by a wall and surrounded by flower meadows and plants, visitors can enjoy some time out. A beach area promises vacation feeling in the Ruhr region. Urban Blue will also offer gastronomy and changing entertainment such as walking acts, face painting for children and a sunset picnic. The company Schröder Landschaftsarchitekten is responsible for planning the area while Michel Consulting implements the access control system. Like the Langendreer indoor pool, the facility will be operated by WasserWelten Bochum. The old indoor pool remains as part of Urban Blue and will be extensively modernized over the next few years.
At the end of next month, on April 26-28, Urban Blue will welcome its first visitors as part of an opening weekend. Various sporting and fun activities await guests on these days. ■
