New Theme Area will be Opened at Särkänniemi Adventure Park This Summer

Last year saw the opening of “Angry Birds Land” at Särkänniemi Adventure Park in Tampere, Finland (cp. EAP 4/2012). This year a further new expansion within the park is already underway: This summer the new theme area “Särkänniemi Doghill” will be opened to the public. According to the park, it will be the largest investment of the 21st century for Särkänniemi Adventure Park. The one hectare large area will feature no actual rides but make it possible for visitors to find themselves again in the world of Doghill. Doghill is a well-known children’s book series created by the Finnish illustrator and children’s book author Mauri Kunnas. His books have been translated into 29 languages and over seven million copies have been sold worldwide. The new area, which will replace the old children’s zoo, will include the Town of Doghill, Doghill Farm as well as Drakkula’s Castle. Also the animals of the children’s zoo will move to the new area and be provided with a new stable and sheds. The US-based design firm BDR Design, who already designed Angry Birds Land, is responsible for the design of this new area as well. (eap)
