Serengeti-Park Hodenhagen Ready for Anniversary Season

(eap) After Germany’s Serengeti-Park Hodenhagen was affected by serious flooding at the end of last year, the park is now looking forward to its nearing reopening. “Thanks to the efforts of the helpers from the THW, fire department, DLRG, farmers and many citizens, as well as our employees we were able to save our animals and protect the largest parts of the park from the masses of water,” explains park owner and Managing Director Dr. Fabrizio Sepe. In the past few weeks work has been carried out tirelessly on the park grounds, so that the safari park can welcome back its guests as of March 16 in its usual splendor. “This is more important to us this year than ever, as we are celebrating our 50th anniversary!” concludes Sepe.

The park is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the opening of various new attractions. The long-awaited roller coaster prototype “Gozimba” by Ride Engineers Switzerland (RES) is scheduled to go into operation in May. The new “Samburu Moto” round ride, a “Sidecar” attraction from Italian manufacturer Technical Park, will open with the start of the season. With the new “Amphibian Safari” and “Submarine Safari”, visitors will be able to experience animals on land, in the water and underwater. The new “Extinct Safari” will bring them closer to extinct animal species as part of an educational trail.

Also, the park is looking forward to new animal offspring. “Kilombo”, a white rhino bull, was recently born. “Our 54th Rhino baby – there could hardly be a better gift to mark the start of our 50th anniversary. We are proud of the success of our white rhino breeding program, as the southern white rhinos are classified as Red List of the IUCN as ‘potentially endangered’,” says Sepe. The Serengeti-Park will also be welcoming critically endangered lion monkeys and Kordofan giraffes this year. ■
