UK: Indoor Ski Center Opens in London Chelsea

Last December saw the opening of Chel*ski, a new indoor ski center located in London’s district of Chelsea. Owned by businessman Ben Wray and his wife Arabella Wray, the facility was built in a warehouse not far from Stamford Bridge. Chel*ski’s slopes are white, revolving astro turf mats that are watered frequently to make them a suitable surface for skiing and snowboarding. Up to three guests are allowed on each of the two 12.5 m by 6.5 m slopes delivered by MAH Services at the same time.

The Chel*ski offer is addressed to experienced skiers and snowboarders as well as to beginners. While advanced visitors can improve their skills at speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour and a gradient of 40 degrees, beginners have the possibility to learn the basics of skiing under professional guidance. The instructor can switch off the remote-controlled slope at any time. According to James Corden, director of skiing at the facility, beginners here progress at a rate of up to ten times faster than on snow. (eap)
