USA: New LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Michigan Recently Opened in Detroit
Merlin Entertainments recently opened its new LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Michigan in Detroit on March 24th, 2016, as the eighth one of its kind in North America and the 14th LEGOLAND Discovery Center worldwide. This is also the 100th Midway attraction of the global visitor attractions operator – that are high quality indoor attractions with five core chainable brands: LEGOLAND Discovery Center, SEA LIFE, Madame Tussauds, The Eye observation attractions and The Dungeon. On 32,000 square-foot (2972 square metres), visitors can experience exciting LEGO® themed rides, including „Kingdom Quest“ and „Merlin’s Apprentice“. A 4D Cinema brings favorite LEGO characters on the screens, there are numerous themed build and play areas, and the MINILAND exhibit that displays beloved local Detroit landmarks made from LEGO bricks. One of these landmarks – the iconic “RenCen” building – took 296 hours to build and is comprised of 50,172 LEGO bricks. John Jakobsen, Chief New Openings Officer at Merlin Entertainments, said: “We are thrilled to be announcing the opening of LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Michigan, marking Merlin’s 100th Midway attraction. Merlin has set out ambitious growth plans, including targeting opening 40 new Midway attractions over the next five years, and the LEGOLAND Discovery Center will play an integral role in that.” The construction works for the 9th LEGOLAND Discovery Center of North America and the 17th worldwide at PREIT’s Plymouth Meeting Mall in Philadelphia are scheduled to begin this summer (cf.
