USA: Six Flags Great Adventure to Use Solar-Powered Energy
Making a claim for the environment, Jackson-based Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park has recently announced its ambition to become “the world’s first solar-powered theme park” by the end of 2019. The project of Six Flags and its partner KDC Solar includes the construction of solar carports over select parking lots and the installation of ground-mounted solar panels on a territory of more than 16 hectares (40 acres) to generate a total power of 23.5 megawatts. Construction works are set to begin in March this year.
“[…] This project represents a giant step toward becoming a net-zero carbon facility. We are pleased that we were able to come to a satisfactory agreement with all parties involved. Clean energy is right for the environment and our future, and we look forward to decades of environmental stewardship with our partner, KDC Solar,” said John Winkler, Park President of Six Flags Great Adventure.
