USA: VOLKANU – Sally Dark Rides to Supply Immersive Dark Ride for New Lost Island Themepark in Iowa
Theme and amusement parks are often supplemented by a second gate in the form of a water park, i.e. a second park that is built next to the existing main facility. In the case of a current project in the US state of Iowa, it’s the other way around. There, in Waterloo, the Lost Island Waterpark, which opened in 2001, is being supplemented by its own theme park soon, which is currently under construction. The anchor attraction of the new Lost Island Themepark, which will feature a mythical island theme with an iconic volcano structure, will be a state-of-the-art dark ride attraction called “VOLKANU – Quest for the Golden Idol”, which will be custom designed from Sally Dark Rides. The operator and the manufacturer made their joint announcement today.
According to the storyline, visitors to the attraction will embark on an action-packed adventure to find the sacred “Ora-Tika” statue, responsible for keeping the volcano dormant. Equipped with a “Thermal Blaster”, the passengers will battle with the minions of Volkanu and head to the “Temple of Fire” to return the statue to its altar.
“The team at Sally is the best of the best. They’ve created a thrill-packed adventure ride with Volkanu that’s sure to become a fan-favorite at Lost Island,” said Eric Bertch, owner of Lost Island Waterpark. “The new theme park builds on the magic we created with our waterpark for an all-new, immersive experience. With rides like Volkanu and many more to come, we can’t wait to see the excitement on families’ faces on opening day.”
The masterplan for the new, approx. 64-hectare theme park was developed by the US firm of BDR Design Group. The grand opening of Lost Island is scheduled for 2022. (eap)
