After the concept of Topgolf has already been established in the leisure industry in the USA for many years, the brand is also growing internationally and has opened further locations in Great Britain, Australia, Mexico, Dubai and now also in Germany. In the middle of the Ruhr area in Oberhausen, in the immediate vicinity of the Westfield Centro Oberhausen, the first Topgolf facility on the European mainland opened last Friday. The company Greenreb, which has invested around 50 million euros in the creation of the golf entertainment destination in Oberhausen, is the partner and official licensee of Topgolf for the DACH region and Italy. According to Patrick Davis, COO of Greenreb, the location is in an ideal starting position, as Topgolf Oberhausen is within an hour’s drive of eleven million people.

But how does Topgolf work? On three floors, Topgolf Oberhausen offers 34 teeing grounds each, the so-called “bays”, which can be used with up to six people and are equipped with a “tee box” made of artificial turf from which to tee off. Visitors can then compete against each other in 12 different game modes (levels easy to difficult) and collect points by hitting in the large holes on the approximately 20,000 square meter artificial turf outdoor area. Various woods and irons are available to players for teeing off, which can be used for the shot depending on the distance. Additionally, Topgolf Oberhausen offers three bars. Drinks and snacks can also be ordered directly to the bay via QR code. Basically, no prior golf knowledge is required for the experience. (eap)
