Australia: Luna Park Sydney Invests 30 Million AUD on New Attractions
Luna Park Sydney, which was opened 85 years ago at Lavender Bay in the direct neighbourhood of Sydney Harbour Bridge, announced an investment of 30 million Australian Dollar (around 18.4 Euro) to offer visitors nine new attractions as of the 2021 season. “We are investing over $30 million to upgrade park facilities, introduce nine new, state-of-the-art rides and update some of our other attractions, while ensuring we retain the heritage and history of this much-loved Sydney destination,“ says Peter Hearne, managing dirctor of Luna Park Sydney.
The new attractions include a remake of the “Big Dipper“ – the original Big Dipper was a wooden coaster which visitors were able to enjoy from 1935 to 1979. This new version will be the world’s first “Inline Seating Launch Coaster“ supplied by Intamin. The Big Dipper will feature two launch sections – the first will accelerate the train to 50 km/h and the second to 72 km/h. Additionally, Italian manufacturer Zamperla will supply Luna Park Sydney with a new “Discovery Revolution 360“ pendulum ride as well as with numerous kiddie rides – a Crazy Submarine, a Jump Around , a Jumin‘ Tower, a Mini Ferris Wheel and a Samba Balloon.
