“Cosmos Caspar“ – Exhibition with Fragrance Interactions in Hamburg
(eap) To mark the 250th birthday of the German painter Caspar David Friedrich (Romantic era), the Hamburger Kunsthalle (Engl. “Hamburg Art Gallery“) is presenting the exhibition “Caspar David Friedrich – Art for a New Era“ until April 1, 2024. A special feature of the exhibition is its inclusive educational concept: In the “Cosmos Caspar“ room, visitors can immerse themselves in pictorial worlds with all their senses at various scent, touch and drawing stations. The close-up scent stations, for example, which were installed by the Neuss-based company Magic Box, are filled with different nature scents to reactivate memories of personal nature experiences.
An inclusive tactile relief of Caspar David Friedrich‘s The Arctic Ocean (1823/24) also allows blind or visually impaired people to marvel at the artist‘s work. At several analog and digital drawing stations, visitors can become active in painting. In addition, the “Caspar Cosmos“ room builds a bridge from Caspar David Friedrich‘s lifetime to the present day and presents a perspective on how the relationship between man and nature has developed. A participation wall invites visitors to leave their own thoughts and opinions. ■
