“Regina II” Woodie at Japan’s Tobu Zoo Now in Operation
After the completion of extensive general overhaul work on the “Regina” wooden roller coaster at Japan’s Tobu Zoo (located just under an hour’s drive north of the city of Saitama), the ride, which opened in 2000 and was supplied by manufacturer Intamin, is now back in operation under the name of “Regina II”.
Great Coasters International was commissioned with the modernization works on the woodie. The company replaced over 250 meters (825 feet) of the existing wooden track with new structural components made from tropical Ipé hardwood and Southern Yellow Pine for a fresh smooth ride experience. Likewise, the company, which specializes in wooden roller coasters, performed extensive renovation work on the ride’s supports as well as its wooden framework. In addition, the attraction received two modern trains (type: Millennium Flyer), a new lifthill chain, a new control system and magnetic brakes, among other upgrades. (eap)
