Australia: New Multi-Break Wave Pool Promises Surfing Fun with up to 2,400 Waves per Hour
Near the Australian coastal city of Yeppoon/Central Queensland, a demo version of a new multi-break wave pool for surfers is currently under construction, which will feature four reefs for up to 2,400 waves per hour. The project is being implemented by the Australian Surf Lakes company, developer of the Surf LakesTM Technology for aritificial surfing facilities.
After completion of the last construction phase, first tests with surf professionals are scheduled to start next month to demonstrate the demo system to potential licensees and investors. Concentric waves (see image), created by right and left waves, will spread over four reefs and produce so-called outer break waves with a maximum height of 2.4 meters. For beginners there will be smaller “learner breaks” as well. In addition, each wave will be of a different size and shape for the optimal challenge – according to Surf Lakes, this is a world’s first. The maximum depth of the 200 meter long and 150 meter wide surf facility is ten meters. (eap)
