Australia: New Surf Park NorthBreak Surf Resort Planned for Queensland
The architecture and design company Hunt Design, located in Mowbray, Queensland in the northeast of Australia, is developing a new surfspot named NorthBreak Surf Resort. It will become an artificial surf lagoon constructed in cooperation with Canadian supplier Endless Surf to further enhance the appeal of the region and to provide visitors with a safe surfing opportunity all year-round. The over 40 hectare-large (100 acre) destination will also include SUP areas, a kids aqua park and a bike trail besides the surf pool. For accommodation NorthBreak will feature a 160-room hotel, surf cabanas and condominium apartments. A beach club, a restaurant, a wellness and spa centre, a conference centre and function rooms will be developed as well.
“Port Douglas has some natural benefits such as the lush tropical setting and winter warmth that the team were able to capitalize on, while at the same time overcoming the inability to surf here or even swim in summer due to box jelly fish,” said Andrew Thatcher, VP Business Development at Endless Surf. “This resort epitomizes the future of sustainable surf parks. A carefully considered development which understands how to enhance both the community and elevate guest experience […],” commented Paul Chutter President of Endless Surf.
“From early on in our investigation of the surf technologies available it became obvious to us that Endless Surf was the standout option for NorthBreak, backed by a team with an impressive track record,” added David Imgraben who operates Hunt Design together with Gary Hunt. Construction start for NorthBreak Surf Resort is scheduled for early 2022. (eap)
