Austria: WAVE Water World to Be Closed Permanently – Last Day Tomorrow
Despite all efforts on the part of the citizens and supporters of the WAVE Water World in Wörgl/Austria (cf. EAP news of 22 Feb 2021), the adventure pool complex in Tyrol must now close permanently after all – this was decided by a majority of the municipal council of the municipality of Wörgl on 29 April 2021. Tomorrow already, on 31 August, is the last operation day of the bathing facility. Due to the Corona pandemic, only the outdoor pool is currently in operation anyway.
“We regret the decision, but take note of it! Especially in times of a pandemic, a municipality must also be able and willing to afford such a large facility as WAVE. It is ultimately the right of the owner to decide whether he can and wants to maintain the business in these times,” – as posted in a statement on the facility’s website. Andreas Ramsauer, who managed WAVE with a huge amount of creativity and know-how from the early days on, was also very saddened when a solely political decision sealed the demolition of a modern leisure pool complex and tourist magnet this past spring. “In the meantime, we have had several months to prepare for tomorrow. I have accommodated 98% of my staff elsewhere – that was important to me. I myself will now have a few more weeks to deal with the handling here before I then devote myself fully to my new task in Ischgl,” says Ramsauer.
The inventory of the wellness and catering areas of the complex are already being auctioned on https://www.aurena.at/auktionen/Tirol. In the coming weeks, waterslides and other attractions of the WAVE will also be up for disposition. (eap)
