(eap) On the site of the former Feria de Chapultepec in a central recreational area in Mexico City, the new Parque Urbano Aztlán recently opened as a new amusement park with a wide range of rides and attractions. Following a tragic accident in 2019, the former Feria amusement park, which had delighted locals and tourists to the metropolis of millions for over 50 years, was permanently closed. All of the rides were dismantled and some were sold. A consortium of investors and operators (including the construction company Mota-Engil) then pushed ahead with the development of a new park, so that the amusement park fun is now back to the Chapultepec green area.

The new 85-metre-high Ferris wheel (by Fabbri) can be seen from afar, where guests can enjoy spectacular views both during the day and after dark. Other major attractions include two family rollercoasters from SBF-Visa (“La Mocha” & a Big Air Coaster), a Family Swinger and an Evolux ride from the same manufacturer, several Zamperla rides (including a Jumpin’ Star, a Samba Tower, a Happy Swing and an Air Race 6.4) and a multi-level carousel from Bertazzon. Active Leisure from Germany, an international installation company, was commissioned with the construction of all the rides. The new Aztlán Park currently has a total of 16 attractions. With “Siniestro”, a VR horror experience also awaits visitors. By the end of this year, further rides – including a Suspended Family Coaster from Vekoma with a track length of over 550 metres and a maximum height of just under 23 metres – will be added to the wide range of attractions. ■
