Belgium: Bellewaerde to Build Indoor Waterpark
Belgium’s Bellewaerde animal and amusement park today announced its highest investment to date: Within the next one and a half years a new indoor waterpark – Bellewaerde Aquapark – is to be built on an area of 3,000 square meters next to the park. The costs for its construction will amount to approx. 17 million Euros. The waterpark is aimed at attracting families with its offer featuring a play zone and a kiddie pool, a wellness zone, a lazy river and an outdoor area with a relaxing spot for hot summer days.
“Multiple market researches showed the potential to combine Bellewaerde with an indoor waterpark, the entire Bellewaerde team is very proud to realize this important project. This confirms that our shareholder Compagnie des Alpes believes in our site and strategy. The waterpark will have an overall positive impact on Bellewaerde, but also on the employment opportunities since minimum ten extra people will be recruited,” stated Stefaan Lemey, General Manager of Bellewaerde. The waterpark is scheduled to open in spring 2019.
This month, Bellewaerde has opened its new “Dawson Duel” Duelling Alpine Coaster (from Wiegand). It is the first installation of an Alpine Coaster that does not start at a natural hillside but at a tower of 25 meters (c.f. EAP news from September 29th, 2016 & park report in EAP, 2/17). (eap)
