Black Forest: “Erlebniswelt Triberg” Project

For around 80 million euros, a theme park with the flair of the Black Forest is to be built in the Black Forest village of Triberg (population: 5,000). The highest waterfalls in Germany—163 metres tall—can be marvelled at in Triberg. Yet the number of visitors to the natural attraction has been significantly declining over the past few years. Now on the premises of an unused industrial compound with 20,000 square metres of surface space, a roofed-in world of adventure is to be created, which can be used the whole year round. Construction is set to begin in mid-2009 and the grand opening of the complex facility should follow in the year 2011. Plans for the compound foresee rides as well as a special children’s world and adventurous nature paths. The park is to be marketed by a joint-stock company that has already been founded by two private investors from Triberg. Up to a million visitors are expected, whereas the existing concept estimates that the profit zone should be achieved with 250,000 visitors p.a. upward. Turnover is expected to increase from an initial 19 million euros in 2011, to 34 million euros in the year 2015. The current plans do not foresee charging any admission fee to the facility.  (eap)
