Busch Gardens Williamsburg: Reopening of Loch Ness Monster
Photo: Courtesy of Busch Gardens Williamsburg (eap) Following extensive refurbishment work, Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s iconic steel roller coaster “Loch Ness Monster” (Arrow Dynamics) reopened last Friday under the now extended name “Loch Ness Monster: The Legend Lives On”. As part of the modernization work, some 900 feet (over 270 meters) of the roller coaster track were replaced. Riders can now experience new sights, sounds and surprises on “Nessie”. The adventure begins with a redesigned entrance and a new platform. Also, a new soundtrack especially created for the Loch Ness Monster coaster remake is being played. Finally on the train, guests conquer the first drop and catch a glimpse of something monstrous lurking underwater before coming face-to-face with the monster in a shadowy cave…
Named after the Loch Ness Monster, the coaster opened 46 years ago as the first coaster with two interlocking loops. Long standing members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts joined Busch Gardens leadership and local dignitaries for the ribbon cutting and inaugural ride of the modernized coaster. Park members were able to ride the coaster in advance. “We gave our members the opportunity to be the first to experience the reimagined Loch Ness Monster during exclusive member ride time this past week, and they loved it,” said Kevin Lembke, President of Busch Gardens Williamsburg & Water Country USA. “For many of our members, Loch Ness Monster was their first roller coaster. […] Now, we can’t wait to share this thrill with all our visitors today and for many years to come.” ■
