Canada: Turbo Racer – A New Dark Ride Coaster Concept from CAVU

Victoria-based CAVU Designwerks, provider of media-based attractions, has recently presented its new “Turbo Racer“ product, combining a themed dark ride with a rollercoaster ride experience (please click here to watch the video). The motion-based vehicles, which feature two rows with four seats each, first drive through a themed indoor dark ride section before the track leads outside where riders rush through a rollercoaster-like track layout, at a max. speed of 80 km/h. Eventually, the ride ends at the indoor station.

The special feature of this attraction concept are the on-board motion bases enabling the vehicles to roll to the side to a max. angle of +/- six degrees and to pitch up to eight degrees, e.g. in order to simulate near collisions. Given a ride time of six minutes, including ingress and egress time, a capacity of 720 persons/hour can be reached with a total of nine vehicles.

The new dark ride coaster concept, combining a dark ride section with an exterior coaster layout, is slightly reminiscent of Epcot’s “Test Track” (developed by Dynamic Attractions, amongst others). (eap)
