Canada: Ubisoft® To Open “Rabbids“ Entertainment Centre in Montreal

On 27th April 2016 Ubisoft®, one of the leading developers and publishers of computer games, announced to open the world’s first “Rabbids” family entertainment centre on Montreal’s West Island in August this year. The company aims to persue the present success of its video games brand “Rabbids” to test this concept of family entertainment. On an area of 1,400 square metres, children until the age of twelve years should dip in the world of the mischievous rabbits together with their families. The development of the entertainment centre has been carried out directly by Ubisoft Canada. “Montreal is the ideal city to test this concept and to open an entertainment centre of this kind,” said Olivier Ernst, Managing Director of Ubisoft Canada. A steady growth of the number of families visiting amusement parks in North America over the past years underlines this statement. According to Ernst, the investment made in the running project is seven-digit. The Rabbis Amusement Centre will be able to accommodate several hundred people. More details have not been revealed so far. Since 2011 the French theme park Futuroscope has been offering a “Rabbids” themed 5D attraction (read our detailed report in EAP, issue 2/2014). Further, Ubisoft is working in cooperation with Sony Pictures Entertainment on an animated movie featuring the crazy rabbits (cf. EAP-news from March 25, 2014), and plans to build a proper theme park including the Ubisoft brands in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, which is scheduled to open in 2020 (cf. EAP-news from September 8, 2015). (eap)
