Canada/China: Cirque du Soleil Announces First Resident Show in China
As Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group recently announced, their first resident show in China will open in mid-2019 at the Xintiandi Central Activity Zone in Hangzhou, China. In collaboration with Hangzhou Xintiandi Group (XTD), a Chinese operator of premium commercial properties founded in 2008, the 45th production of Cirque du Soleil will be realized under the name “Cirque du Soleil 绮幻之境 (The Land of Fantasy)”.
The theatre will provide seats for 1,500 spectators on two revolving bleachers, allowing to experience the show from two perspectives. The 100 meter wide mainstage will be divided into individually controlled panels with trap doors. With 3D props, video mapping and acrobatic acts, the show will immerse the audience into the story.
Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, says: “We are now solidly and permanently establishing ourselves in China, with a resident show that was specially created for Chinese audiences. Our partnership with XTD enabled us to create a unique-in-the-world entertainment experience and we want to thank them for their precious collaboration.”
The storyline of the show deals with the reunion of two ancient kingdoms through two infants, who were left at the opposing kingdoms palace and fight for the good. (eap)
